When do we start heart disease screening?

At every wellness visit preventative care is going to be assessed and addressed. If increased risk factors for heart disease are identified it is recommended to check cholesterol, fasting glucose and other diagnostic testing. If no risk factors, patients should be screened at 40 years old and then every 3-5 years.

What are some of the risk factors?

  • Elevated blood pressure

  • Tobacco dependence

  • Obesity

  • Sedentary lifestyle

  • Family history

  • Menopause

  • Stress
